Water for Warriors

At ATHA, water is a lifeline. Every horse who comes through our gates depends on clean, reliable water to heal, thrive, and begin a new chapter.

Before 2025, we had no dedicated well and relied on purchased water that had to be hauled to the ranch, often at considerable cost. While we made it work, we knew our horses deserved the security of a permanent water source to support their care for years to come.

Through our Water for Warriors campaign, generous supporters helped raise the $45,000 needed to build a dedicated well at our Desert Hills facility. Today, clean water flows freely to the horses who call ATHA home, providing not only a vital resource but also peace of mind for the future.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to these donors who helped make this dream a reality.

Extreme Barn Makeover

What began as a ranch held together by temporary fencing, aging structures, and limited shade became the catalyst for something far greater. When one of our few shade structures collapsed during a storm, it served as a powerful reminder that our horses deserved more than temporary solutions. Inspired by the vision of our founder, Dannielle Marturana, the Extreme Barn Makeover – Thoroughbred Edition was born to create the safe, lasting sanctuary she always believed retired racehorses deserved.

Today, the transformation is extraordinary. Permanent stalls stand strong, secure, shaded, and built to serve generations of horses to come. The ranch feels different now, not only safer, but filled with hope and promise for the future.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, $36,500 was raised toward this project, with the remaining costs covered through an anonymous donor's pledge. We are also deeply grateful to the construction companies that provided substantial discounts, helping turn this dream into a lasting reality for the horses in our care.

The Heart of Our Mission

Every horse's journey begins with hope, but it is people who turn that hope into a new beginning.

Our volunteers are the hands and hearts behind countless acts of care, showing up day after day to serve both horses and humans with dedication and compassion. Our adopters help write the final chapter, offering safe havens, loving homes, and the opportunity for a brighter future.

Together, they embody the spirit of After the Homestretch AZ and remind us that second chances are made possible through kindness, commitment, and love.

Our Volunteers

A special THANK YOU to all ATHA Volunteers who continuously show up 365 days a year — rain or shine (including massive Phoenix heat) — and still go above and beyond the daily chores of feeding, watering and mucking. They also help with ranch cleanup, horse care, making fly masks and name plaques for the horses’ stalls, attending clinics plus so much more.

Our volunteers are the very heart of our mission, and we could not do it without them! We are beyond grateful for their dedication and compassion in caring for these incredible horses.

Our Adoptors

A heartfelt thank you to our adopters. When you welcome one of our retired racehorses into your family, you do far more than provide a home, you provide a second chance and a future filled with love.

Nothing brings us greater joy than seeing a horse find the forever home they deserve. Each successful adoption is a reminder of why we do what we do and represents the completion of one journey and the beginning of another. Thank you for making these life-changing stories possible.
