A Message in Memory of Our Founder, Dannielle
After the Homestretch Arizona is currently home to a herd of retired racehorses at various stages in our aftercare program, all located at our Desert Hills facility.
As each horse progresses through reconditioning and training, we look forward to matching them with the right person and helping them transition into loving, permanent homes.

Dannielle Marturana
When Dannielle founded After the Homestretch Arizona in 2011, the organization relied solely on foster homes. Within a few years, we were able to lease a two-acre property, allowing all of our horses to be cared for together in one central location.
Through grant funding, we provided essential improvements for our horses, including shade structures, turnout areas, and spaces for exercise and training. With the continued support of private sponsors and donors, we also ensured our horses received the aftercare and veterinary support they needed. All structures and corrals were designed to be portable, allowing us to relocate when a permanent home became possible.
In July 2017, we launched a Capital Campaign to purchase our forever home on a neighboring five-acre property. Thanks to this effort, we successfully acquired the site, and in October 2017—alongside many dedicated volunteers—we relocated our entire herd, along with fencing panels, stalls, and shade structures, to our new ranch.
Under Dannielle’s leadership, our primary focus has always been the health and well-being of the horses in our care. We are guided by a strong and engaged five-member Board, and supported by an Advisory Council that includes our veterinarian, Dr. Stacey Sickler; trainer Nikki Thorkelson; and Michelle Scarzone, Masterson Method Certified Practitioner. We are also fortunate to have a dedicated, enthusiastic, and supportive team of volunteers.
We look forward to welcoming you into our community of horse lovers, united by the shared goal of finding the loving homes these remarkable athletes so richly deserve.
