Sandyneck & Groundstar
Ferrero & Apollo
Adoption Story
Groundstar (Barn Name: Buddy), now known as Apollo, arrived at the ranch lethargic and unable to gain weight after a difficult colic.
Sandyneck, now known as Ferrero, came to us withdrawn, pinning his ears at the mere approach of other horses. Each carried their own silent burdens.
But at ATHA, second chances are forged with patience and love. With dedicated care, both Apollo and Ferrero began to transform and their true personalities emerged: gentle, kind, and surprisingly non-assertive. Recognizing their shared quiet spirits, we gently introduced them.
What followed was extraordinary. They didn't just coexist; they bonded deeply, becoming an inseparable pair. They found solace and joy in each other's company, eating side-by-side, sharing water, and engaging in playful moments that warmed our hearts.
Our deepest hope was to find a home where these two beautiful souls could remain together. And that wish was granted! A wonderful family, who volunteered at the ranch and witnessed Apollo and Ferrero's journey firsthand, opened their hearts and their home. Apollo went home with daughter Amanda, and Ferrero with mom Conny. It was the perfect happily-ever-after, a testament to the power of resilience, compassion, and the unbreakable bond between two rescued horses.
