Dannielle Marturana

Founder emeritus
woman at a horse ranch

Dannielle started ATHA because after over 8 years of volunteering for horse rescues, she was looking for somewhere to put all she had learned into where horses still had a great need to be rescued.

With an 8-month racing season, the local Phoenix track has 1700-2100 horses coming from all over the country and Canada to compete. The chances a horse needs to retire from racing or needs somewhere to rehabilitate before learning a new career is very high. That was the niche that needed filling.

She gathered 9 friends who she knew were dedicated to horses and they began the Board.  They submitted their request to the IRS and within 3 weeks, they received the 501c3 approval.  After The Homestretch-Arizona began on July 25, 2011.

Sadly, Dannielle passed away on July 22, 2025, just 3 days prior to her 14th year as the President of After The Homestretch-Arizona. Her unwavering dedication to protecting the legacy of former racehorses through reconditioning, retraining, and re-homing built this organization from the ground up.

The ATHA Board is committed to continuing her vital work in her honor.
