After The Homestretch-Arizona has had six successful years and was ready to continue and expand. The 2-acre parcel of land we are leasing, however, was sold and the new owners wished to develop it. We needed to move when our lease ended on September 30, 2017.
A fabulous PERMANENT SOLUTION was nearby. We could literally walk the horses to it!! An established 5-acre horse property with a caretaker home, a well, turnouts, indoor barn and arena, just down the street and selling for $410,000.
ATHA purchasing its own facility means the nonprofit has a permanent solution to a critical need for retiring racehorses, which will allow us to continue our mission of “Protecting the legacy of former racehorses through education, reconditioning, retraining and re-homing”. Securing our own property secures a future for our organization and the future of retiring racehorses in Arizona. Please help be a part of the future of After The Homestretch by donating to our Capital Campaign to purchase a ranch of its own.
With the generous support of donors to the 1st phase of our Campaign, and with the understanding of the Sellers, we have been able to put together the financing neccessary to move into the new Property, which we did on October 19th, 2017. Our dream of a permanet home for ATHA has become a reality. But we still have a quite a way to go to complete our financial objectives, so please support our Capital Campaign - our horses are depending on it!
In our six years in aftercare of former racehorses, we have strived to become a strong and vibrant organization, to be financially transparent, to study and give the best of care to our horses and to ensure that their new, adoptive homes are wonderful places to live out their lives.
We are a financially sound and transparent organization, and have earned the highest status among small nonprofits, a Platinum Seal with GuideStar.org. In recognition for the excellent care we give our ex-racehorses, we have been accredited as a partner with the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance. To date we have accepted 54 horses into our program and 38 of them have found permanent, adoptive homes. There are 16 horses in our current herd.
