We didn’t quite know who he was when he first arrived. Not all of his tattoo was readable. His markings fit one possible ex-racehorse, but there was no Arizona connection. It was the dark spot on his left hip, that unlocked the clue..it was written in his description on the Jockey Club Registry.
Meet Sidney by the C. He is a 12 year old chestnut gelding, foaled in California on January 18, 2001. His dam is Diane’s Three C’s by Stage Colony and his sire is Walter Willy (from Ireland).
He had 23 starts with 4 Firsts, 3 Seconds, and 2 Thirds, earning $30,424. His last race was January of 2006. Where he has been since then is a mystery. He was discovered by a young woman who saw he had potential, but was so very underweight and quite possibly could wind up in a bad place. She added weight to him for 2 months, but he was still needing more recovery time than she could afford.
He came to After The Homestretch-Arizona on June 22, 2013. He is very personable and is a welcomed addition to our existing herd. He has very good ground manners already and is very trusting of people.
UPDATE: Our Beloved Sidney sadly passed away July 4th, 2015 at his adopted home after a tragic accident in his turnout. He will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to meet him. But he remains in our hearts and will always be remembered as the sweet and sociable "face" of the Kentucky Derby Day event at the Phoenician Resort, where he wowed all attendees as the featured guest celebrity, raising funds for his buddies at After The Homestretch-Arizona.
