November of 2016, ATHA received a call about an unraced 2 ½-year-old gelding located at Turf Paradise.  His trainer felt he was a fabulous horse with a great mind but lacked the competitive spirit to be a successful racehorse, so he retired him to ATHA.

Board member and longtime volunteer, Michele Anderson, met at the track to pick up Newly and immediately fell in love with the handsome chestnut.  Newly has a very calm, easy-going disposition, that was exactly what she was looking for in a trail horse.  She officially adopted Newly on his 3rd birthday, April 12, 2017.

Today they reside in Desert Hills, within walking distance of ATHA, with herd mates Here Comes Frazier "Bob", another off the track thoroughbred, former ATHA thoroughbred Sasha, two mini horses named Scooter Bunsen and Stampy as well as two dogs, Lilly and Pluto.
